Ingredients for 4 portions
- 600 g potatoes
- 260 g minced meat
- 1 piece zucchini
- 1 piece aubergine
- 6 pcs tomatoes
- 1 tsp tomato paste
- 1 piece onion
- 1 clove of garlic
- 1 bunch parsley
- 1 pinch of cinnamon
- 150 g cheese
- 1 pinch of oregano
- 1 piece nutmeg
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 pinch of pepper
Ingredients for the sauce:
- 1 pinch salt
- 25 g butter
- 25 g flour
- 300 ml milk
- 1 pinch of pepper
Directions
- Mousaka is a typical casserole dish. Boil the potatoes, rinse with cold water, peel and cut into 2-4 mm thick slices.
- Then cut the aubergines and courgettes into 2-4 mm thick slices, add salt and pepper and fry on both sides in hot oil until golden yellow.
- Now lightly fry the chopped onion and garlic in a saucepan, then add the minced, peeled and chopped tomato pieces, tomato paste and parsley.
- With cinnamon, salt, pepper and Oregano season and approx. 10 min. simmer let – stirring thereby frequently.
- For the sauce, slowly heat the butter in another pot and stir in the flour until it is golden brown. Add the milk while stirring constantly and simmer for 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- Coat a suitable casserole dish with fat and cover with the boiled potatoes. Then stack the aubergine, minced meat and zucchini in the pan and finish with the potato slices.
- Pour the prepared sauce over the “stacked” dish and grate the cheese over it.
- Bake the filled casserole dish in a preheated oven at 220C° top-bottom heat for approx. 30 minutes.
